Join Us In April

Every April (Sexual Assault Awareness Month) Warriors from around the globe wear red lipstick to create visibility, demonstrate solidarity and support for survivors, and combat rape myths and victim-blaming.

How It Works

Alternatives

We realize that not everyone feels comfortable (or safe) wearing red lipstick. And others wear it so frequently that doing so for the campaign doesn't have the same effect. So, we encourage supporters to get creative! Check out the photos below or visit our online store for some alternative (or additional) ways to show support and spark conversations throughout the month.

Plan An Event

Whether you want to plan an art show, benefit concert, or tabling event, you've come to the right place! Hosting a Red My Lips event or fundraiser can be a powerful way to engage your school or community in challenging rape myths and victim-blaming while demonstrating support for survivors.

While we all have a unique power to create change in our lives and communities, tackling these issues can feel overwhelming. And it can be hard to know where to begin. Below are some tips for planning a Red My Lips event or fundraiser.

The most important part of talking about these issues is making sure those who have experienced sexual assault, rape, or child sexual abuse feel safe and supported. So, reach out to a local rape crisis center, therapists in your area, or school counselors and make sure event attendees are aware of who they can talk to if they need support.

If you are planning a presentation or group discussion, make sure to let participants know ahead of time that you will be discussing sexual violence and give them alternative options if they feel uncomfortable participating. Explain that these conversations can stir up difficult feelings and let participants know where they can go to talk if they feel distressed during or after a presentation or activity.

HERE ARE SOME IDEAS

  • Organize an art installation or exhibit.
  • Host a film screening and discussion group.
  • Create a space where students or community members can write and display messages of support for survivors.
  • Plan an assembly, presentation, or discussion panel focused on rape culture, victim-blaming, and/or consent.
  • Organize a fundraiser with friends and family or in collaboration with local schools, organizations, or businesses.
  • Plan a tabling event, where students and/or community members can learn more about the cause, put on red lipstick or temporary tattoos, leave consensual lip prints (if appropriate), or taste some delicious red-lipped treats!
